Welcome to Neuro-dc.com! I am Dr. Jeffrey Kurtz, and I created this website to not just be a practice website, but a resource of useful and health enhancing information. On this website you will find all kinds of useful and health enhancing information about Chiropractic Neurology, Sports medicine, and Functional Medicine among other things.
I have over 20 years of experience treating patients in private practices in Evanston, IL, Kent, England, and Munich, Germany. l also have extensive experience in treating high level European professional athletes (German Premier Soccer League, Crossfit Games, and the Munich Cowboys of the German Football League). Whether you are dealing with chronic neurological and inflammatory conditions, chronic pain, fatigue, TMJ dysfunction, digestive issues, hormonal imbalance, or autoimmune problems, I can help. After living in England and Germany for the last 11 years, I have returned to west Michigan to offer something different. My skills meld techniques used in the US, Europe, and the far east. My journey has been focused on a life long learning model motivated by my passion to be the best doctor I can be and help as many patients as possible. Chiropractic is a wonderful discipline that by itself can help a large percentage of patients. However, in this day and age, more patients are presenting with complex issues that manifest as the “common structural problems” that were once remedied by chiropractic alone, but no longer. With the onset of this phenomenon, it has required doctors to adapt to see the patient on a more holistic level—and not as a “machine made up of parts.”
Therefore, I have made it my personal mission to keep learning and adapting to the demands that present themselves in order to get patients well. A teacher and mentor once told me, “Rest on your laurels and watch your peers pass you by.” My drive to help people still motivates me to continue to expand my knowledge and update myself beyond what I have learned years ago.
The definition of “Doctor” is to “Teach” and that is a primary focus of my practice philosophy. I feel that if the patient has an understanding of their issues and what it will take to get them well, the success rate rises exponentially. I teach Applied Kinesiology seminars around the world and apply this philosophy to the teaching of colleagues and of patients.
In dealing with complex health problems such as digestive dysfunction, chronic inflammation, neurological conditions, and autoimmune issues, sometimes there is so much information that it would take months, if not years, to reach a high level of understanding. My goal is to take what can be overwhelming and condense it into an easy to understand explanation.
Functional medicine addresses many dysfunctions and symptoms not yet meeting the criteria to qualify as a recognized disease process. Alternative medicine is often applied to issues involving the gut, endocrine, hormonal, and other chronic conditions. It dovetails well with functional neurology because of the gut-brain axis. An inflammatory leaky gut can contribute to “brain on fire” (inflammation in the brain). This is an important concept in taming anxiety, depression, concentration and learning difficulties, as well as neurodegenerative conditions such cognitive decline and parkinson’s disease.
“To get to the cause, it is imperative to see the patient as a holistic being; not a machine made of parts.”
